September 18, 2020 (Minneapolis, MN) – The Minnesota Building and Construction Trades congratulates Governor Walz, the Minnesota Congressional delegation, the Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County and the cities along the Green Line Extension, also known as the Southwest Light Rail Transit Line in receiving the Full Funding Grant Agreement from the Federal Transit Administration. The $1 billion in federal funds matches more than $1 billion in local dollars that will fund one of the largest construction projects in Minnesota’s history.
“Since his time in congress, Governor Walz has been a champion of the Southwest LRT project,” said Harry Melander, President of the Minnesota Building and Construction Trades Council. “This milestone was achieved with federal, state, regional and municipal partners, which ensures that building trades members can work on completing a much-needed transit alternative in the Twin Cities.”
