The Building Trades serve as the advocate voice for unionized construction workers in Minnesota. The Building Trades endorses candidates for political office who take positions that align with the Building Trades mission, vision and goals.
The Minnesota Building and Construction Trades policy priorities are:
- Growing Minnesota jobs that support Minnesota communities
- Investment in transportation, energy, water and building infrastructure
- Ensuring prevailing wage and workplace safety on Minnesota construction projects.
- Implementing Project Labor Agreements to deliver construction projects on-time and on-budget
- Developing Minnesota’s current and future workforce
- Supporting diversity and inclusion in the construction industry
Endorsement Process:
Congressional Candidates
- Screening Regional Councils in the District
- Regional Council Executive Board Endorse and / or
- Regional Councils make recommendation the State Building Trades Council Executive Board for endorsement

Timeline for 2020 Elections:
December 2019: Questionnaire available to Candidates and Caucuses
January – April 2020: Early Endorsements as needed
February – May 2020: Candidate Screening by Regional Councils
April – July 2020: Endorsements made by Executive Board of State Council
August – September 2020: Late Endorsements as needed
