On July 22, 2020, Senator Tina Smith addressed the Executive Board of the Minnesota Building and Construction Trades Council: “These are difficult times in Washington and here at home in Minnesota. I’m working to get infrastructure funding, COVID benefits, and the HEROES Act passed to make sure that building trades members get the help they need.”
“Senator Smith has been and continues to be an ally of working people and union construction professionals,” said Jessica Looman, Executive Director of the Minnesota Construction Trades Council. “As the former Lt. Governor of Minnesota, she understands what the workers in our state need, and has been an effective voice for Minnesota in Washington. The Building Trades is proud to support Senator Smith’s full term in office.”
As a member of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Smith has made workforce development a priority. In 2019, Smith introduced the 21st Century Workforce Partnerships Act which supports partnerships between businesses and high schools to provide students the skills they need to find good paying jobs and careers.
