Olivia likes to watch things being built from the ground up that people use every day like buildings and bridges. Her position as a second-year apprentice as a welder with Piledrivers 1847 lets her do just that. “I get a lot of bigger opportunities working in a union.” She credits the welding certificates she has been able to complete as part of her apprenticeship for her steady work.
She loves to travel and has been able to travel for work and for fun. “The biggest job I’ve worked on is a water treatment facility in Alabama, I helped weld the pilings for the new Veit Headquarters in Wisconsin, and I recently went to Hawaii, Northern California and Montana on vacation.”
Olivia would encourage people to join a union apprenticeship program, “the benefits are great and the pay is much better” than her previous jobs. “Everything I have learned so far is because I’m in the union and my time as an apprentice on the job.”
