The Minnesota State Building and Construction Trades Council is the advocate voice for unionized construction workers in Minnesota. Seventy thousand members strong, the Minnesota Building Trades has provided leadership and advocacy for construction workers in Minnesota for 70 years.
The Minnesota State Building Trades Council and its affiliates’ mission is to:
- Organize, coordinate, and harmonize the activities, functions, and interests of its affiliates to form an efficient and effective central organization
- Promote the growth and development of affiliated building and construction trades unions
- Foster, develop, and advance apprenticeship training in cooperation with State and Federal agencies and affiliated Local Unions
- Promote health and safety for building trades workers
- Negotiate and enforce project labor agreements
- Encourage equitable and harmonious labor-management adjustment of differences between employers, employees, and Local Unions in the construction industry
- Advance the principles of trade unionism among building trades workers
- Cooperate with other bona fide AFL-CIO labor organizations to protect the interests of building trades workers and seek justice for working people
- Engage in legislative activity to promote and protect the interests of building and construction trades unions and their members and to advance the interests of the building and construction trades industry
- Engage in research, legal, and outreach activities to advance the interests of affiliated unions and their members in the building and construction trades industry
